Alan Kurzer is the founder and CEO of TFS Energy Solutions, LLC, d/b/a Tradition Energy and co-founder and President of TFS Energy, LLC, the institutional brokerage affiliate of Tradition Energy. Mr. Kurzer has over 30 years of energy industry experience in the global physical and derivative markets for crude oil, refined products, natural gas and electricity. Prior to merging the SDI Energy Group with Tradition to form TFS Energy, LLC, in 2000, he spent over 12 years running SDI’s predecessor, Gerald Energy and was CEO of Gerald Commodities, a futures clearing firm. Mr. Kurzer began his career with Caltex Petroleum (Chevron/Texaco) where he held a variety of supply and trading positions in New York, Singapore and Dallas. Mr. Kurzer holds a B.A. from Binghamton University and an M.B.A. from Cornell University.
Larry Rosenshein is the Chairman of TFS Energy, LLC. He began his career at Tradition Financial Services in 1987 and transferred to Japan in 1989 as Asian Head of FX Options. In 1998, he was appointed Director of TFS Asia, and in 2001 appointed COO of TFS-ICAP Volbroker, the leading liquidity provider in Global Foreign exchange options. In 2008, he also assumed the role of Global CTO for electronic trading platforms at Tradition. In August 2009, he was appointed Chairman of TFS Energy, LLC, and Managing Director of TFS Americas. He holds a B.S. in Finance and Management Information Systems from University of Delaware and an M.B.A. in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Addison Armstrong leads Tradition Energy’s Market Research Group. The Group is responsible for developing the primary market analysis and forecasts for which Tradition is renowned, and for directly advising clients accordingly. Mr. Armstrong is a veteran of the energy commodity business, having previously held positions in derivatives marketing, commercial and industrial sales, and business development with AIG Energy Trading, Sempra Energy and ADM Investor Services. He is a former journalist and television producer for NBC, the BBC and Reuters. Mr. Armstrong is an exclusive contributor to CNBC on the energy markets, and is regularly quoted by Reuters, Bloomberg, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Armstrong is a graduate of Columbia University where he majored in Political Science and minored in Middle East Studies.
Michael Ayala manages the Tradition Energy Dallas office. He is an experienced energy professional who advises a broad range of regional and national clients, both in the U.S. and in Europe. In addition to electricity and natural gas procurement, Mr. Ayala advises clients on demand response and energy data management services. Prior to joining Tradition in 2007, he managed large commercial and industrial clients at Direct Energy and Reliant Energy. Mr. Ayala holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Texas Tech University and is a Certified Energy Consultant (CEC). In addition, he is an active member of the Texas Energy Professionals Association (TEPA).
Jay Goldstein is responsible for recruiting and developing the talented staff of professionals that are instrumental to providing our clients with the exceptional services they expect from Tradition Energy. He has 30 years experience in talent acquisition for financial services and consulting firms across the U.S. Prior to joining Tradition Energy, Mr. Goldstein was the founder and principal of an executive search firm. Earlier in his career he was an accountant for Merrill Lynch and Arthur Young. Mr. Goldstein earned a B.S. in Economics from Lehigh University.
Lisa Illman manages Tradition Energy’s Pennsylvania Region, which includes Delaware, Maryland, southern New Jersey and Washington D.C. Ms. Illman has over 15 years experience working both in the manufacturing industry and in advising manufacturers on their energy strategies, purchases and sustainability initiatives. Before joining Tradition she held various management positions with Direct Energy and the Hess Corporation. Early in her career Ms. Illman was responsible for business and product development with several Fortune 500 companies, including Eastman Chemical, ThyssenKrupp and General Electric. Ms. Illman earned a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University.
Keith Kelly manages the wholesale energy and environmental products business for TFS Energy, and advises Tradition Energy clients on risk management strategies. He has over 25 years of experience in the energy physical and derivatives markets assisting energy companies, utilities, financial institutions and trading firms. Mr. Kelly joined TFS in 1993 and has been heavily involved in the development of the U.S. wholesale deregulated electricity marketplace. He has also played an instrumental role at Capstone Energy, a joint-venture between TFS Energy and Harvard Management Corporation where he consulted with energy market participants on strategic issues and specific asset acquisitions. Prior to joining Tradition, he held various hedging and supply sourcing positions at a regional petroleum distributor. Mr. Kelly earned a BS from the University of Alabama majoring in Finance.
Ken King manages Tradition Energy’s Ohio Region. A former energy trader, Mr. King has over 25 years of industry experience having spent several years in leadership positions with Hess Energy Trading Company where he established the US Power trading group, and with Duke Energy (formerly Cinergy) as Managing Director, Financial Trading. Before joining Tradition Energy, Mr. King ran Energy Choice Risk Management, LLC, an energy advisory firm focused primarily on the Ohio market. Early in his career Mr. King was an option market maker on the floor of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Mr. King holds a B.B.A. in Management & Finance from Adelphi University.
Justin Maccarone leads Tradition Energy’s corporate development activities and manages the National Accounts Advisory Group where he has overall responsibility for the successful fulfillment of all aspects of our client advisory services to large national and global businesses. He has over 25 years of experience working at the Board or Executive Management level with businesses operating across a broad array of industries in the U.S., Europe and Latin America. Prior to joining Tradition Energy, he was a Founder and Senior Partner of UBS Capital Americas, LLC, the private equity arm of UBS in the Americas and an executive at GE Capital Corporation. Mr. Maccarone holds a B.A. from Trinity College and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
Jeff Mayer manages the Stamford-based advisory group covering NY, NJ and CT markets. He has over 25 years of experience in the natural gas, electricity and currency markets. Mr. Mayer has been a part of Tradition since 2003, managing our Wholesale Western U.S. and Canada Natural Gas Desk. Prior to joining Tradition, he held various positions in natural gas and foreign exchange at Prebon Yamane. Mr. Mayer received a B.S. from St. Francis University in Business Administration and is a Series 3 licensed futures and commodities broker.
Brian McDermott is responsible for managing our supplier pricing, sourcing, and client services departments. He has over 15 years experience in the wholesale and retail electricity and natural gas businesses. His experience includes monitoring regulation and legislation in energy markets across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring business compliance, tracking and analyzing pricing trends, and managing supplier relationships. Mr. McDermott began his career on the floor of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) for Gerald Energy. He then brokered wholesale natural gas for institutional clients before becoming an integral part of Tradition Energy’s retail team. Mr. McDermott holds a B.A. from The State University of New York at Albany and is Series 3 licensed.
Scott Merrell is responsible for managing our sales and marketing efforts. He has more than 25 years experience developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies for many of the world’s largest and most successful brands. Prior to joining Tradition in 2006, Mr. Merrell spent 14 years with McCann-Erickson and DMB&B, in New York, and as a creative director in Prague, Lima and Mexico City. He also served as the Marketing Communications Manager for the Oregon State Lottery. Mr. Merrell received a B.S. in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a Certified Energy Professional (CEP) and is actively involved in the Texas Energy Professionals Association (TEPA). Mr. Merrell is Series 3 and 30 licensed and he is the CFTC/NFA registered Houston Branch Manager.
Dan Montgomery manages the Tradition Energy Houston office. He has been active in developing deregulated energy markets both in Texas and across the U.S., and has been an integral part of our business since Tradition Energy’s inception in 2006. Mr. Montgomery’s experience covers a broad range of regional and national commercial and industrial clients on energy procurement and management, including demand response and energy data management services. Prior to joining Tradition Energy, Mr. Montgomery worked for an energy efficiency lighting firm in California, as well as serving as a director of sales for a retail energy brokerage firm, in Texas. Mr. Montgomery holds a B.A. in Communications from Houston Baptist University. He is a Certified Energy Professional (CEP) and is on the Board of The Energy Professionals Association (TEPA).
Ben Parker manages the Tradition Energy Boston office and is responsible for our activities throughout New England. He has over 20 years of experience in power and gas markets advising clients on energy cost and risk analyses and risk management strategies. Mr. Parker has served as an independent energy consultant and regional manager for both Reliant Energy and Com/Energy. Mr. Parker has been elected to the New Hampshire State Legislature and served as a member of the Ways and Means Committee. In addition, he has been an elected member of the Londonderry, NH School Board. Mr. Parker holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of Oklahoma and is a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.).
Andrew San Marco is responsible for managing the energy procurement strategies for large companies across the U.S. He has been with Tradition since 1992 and has more than 20 years experience advising clients in the global commodity markets. Prior to moving into Tradition Energy, Mr. San Marco ran Tradition’s global Precious Metals operation. He has been a member of the Tradition Financial Services Board of Directors in the U.S., Dubai and Australia. Prior to joining Tradition, Andrew was a professional baseball player with the Baltimore Orioles minor league organization. Mr. San Marco received a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Tampa.
Peter Sceats has over 30 years of experience in the global electricity, coal and crude oil markets. Early in his career, Mr. Sceats was a broker on the IPE and ran the London energy desk for Gerald Energy. He first joined Tradition in 1997 brokering coal. In addition, Mr. Sceats has had held various energy risk management consultancy roles with RWE in Germany and BHP Billiton and devised the “Liberalised Electricity Markets: What to Expect and how to Handle it” program bringing knowledge of England & Wales Pool, PJM and California power markets to newly deregulating Asian markets. Mr. Sceats holds the highest UK based qualification in technical analysis and is one of Energy Risk magazine’s “Pioneers of Risk Management” having conceived the API Coal Index used by the major European power generators.
Bob Wooten is responsible for our government advisory business throughout the U.S. He has over 20 years experience managing procurement programs. Prior to joining Tradition Energy in 2007, Mr. Wooten spent 11 years at the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) where he managed the Energy Purchasing Corporation and coordinated energy and other procurement functions for hundreds of local governments throughout the U.S. He also worked for Johnson Controls where he was responsible for delivering energy efficiency solutions to the public housing market. Mr. Wooten holds professional certifications from the Association of Energy Engineers and the Institute for Supply Management, as well as a B.A. from Texas A&M University, and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Houston.
